THE FEAR OF THE LORD IS THE BEGINNING OF WISDOM
Our girls attending and leading mass at Molo Catholic Church
Mary Mount is a catholic sponsored school. Due to freedom of worship in the country, both Catholics and Protestants are admitted in the school. Most activities are Catholic based.Mass is attended every morning by the catholic students. These are as from Tuesday to Saturday at 7:00 a.m to 7.30 a.m .Wednesday is an exception whereby the whole school attends mass .Also ,the protestants join the Catholics every Saturday morning. On Sunday, only Catholics attend the first mass as from 8:00 a.m to 9:30 a.m in St. Mary’s Catholic Parish,Molo. We also participate by leading mass twice in a term.
Mass is not attended by Mary Mount school only but also other schools join and a few Christians .Each school has their own sitting positions. For Mary Mount ,the form fours sit at the front part of the church behind them is the form threes. The form ones sit in a different row with the form twos behind them.
The religious activities undertaken by the students include:
We have well trained altar girls who assist in mass.
We chant during the mass, dance and offer prayers of the faithful.
The students volunteer to clean the church every Tuesday.
Special masses are undertaken just before major events .for example:
- Before sitting for major exams
- After receiving the results of major exams e.g. KCSE
Nine days before sitting for a major exam, The Efficacious Novena To The infant Jesus is held. In addition during the month of October the rosary is recited at least twice a week
Catechism and pastoral programmes
Catechism students are 53 while pastoral programmes are attended by the groups differently.
For all the above to take place smoothly it is directed by:
- The prefects.
There are three sachristians:two are form fours and one form three and they are all Catholics. Two prefects who must be Catholics and in form four are in charge of liturgy. There are also two protestant prefects in charge of the Christianan union for the protestants.
in charge of the parish conduct the masses but sometimes especially o Sundays they invite guests priests.
The catechism conducts the catechism class every Sunday from 3:30 p.m to 5:00 p.m
There are two nuns in the school who encourage our students in faith .they also assist in leading mass by training our choir.
As for the non-Catholics their activities are quite different;
They form small prayer groups that met before the start of morning preps and evening preps. On Sunday some of the groups converge in the school hall just before the start of Sunday service e.g. The CU leaders prayer group where they share different biblical messages, prayer requests as well as counseling sessions.
Service and pastoral programmes
During the Sunday service members of the CU sing praise and worship songs for about forty five minutes. Then the preacher of the day who could be either a student or teacher takes over and is then followed by the presentations. Presentations include skits, songs and inspiring messages.
On Wednesday, they attend the pastoral programme and instruction classes which are held in the hall or in the field.
